Periodontitis is a disease that leads to a gradual loss.

Periodontitis is a disease that leads to a gradual loss of tissue supporting the teeth: bone, periodontal ligament and cement. Like gingivitis, the main cause is the accumulation of plaque between the gum and tooth. However, the difference is that the immune response (defense) varies for each individual. People who have less of an alteration in the defenses, genetically inherited or some compromise of health or behavior, are more susceptible to periodontitis. The disease occurs more often in adults over 35 years. Too often, less often affect young people or even children. Systemic disorders such as diabetes can affect the course of disease progression. The snuff and stress are just as adjuvant that contributes to greater loss of support in the active periodontitis (untreated). The features are not always visible, especially at the start and only the clinical examination and X-ray can identify the disease. The treatments are based on the removal of the cause through scraping, smoothing and polishing of teeth, in addition to good oral hygiene.
According to the results of treatment are established regular visits to the periodontist to make the diagnosis and prevent bacterial restocking, eliminating the relapse of the disease. It should be noted that new bacteria are added to the teeth every day.
