Choosing the right nerf bar for a Silverado
Monday, August 8th, 2011It is very important to take time in selecting the correct nerf bar for your pickup truck before adding it to your shopping cart. However, looking for a set of new chrome or stainless steel nerf bars can be daunting. There are a lot of different styles, shapesvand sizes of nerf bars, each coming in a different finish and because of these options, looking for the perfect Silverado nerf bars can become pretty tiring.
The first thing to look at for a nerf bar, also called a running board is the size and width to match your truck. If you own a one-ton truck with a four wheel rear axle, you don’t want to install a thin or narrow boards that would make your truck look cheap and out of balance. There are three basic shapes of truck nerf bars: round, oval and hooped style. The newer style called the hooped style refers to a step bar which has the steps cropping out below the bar in a u-shaped fashion.
The next thing to consider is the material and the finish of the nerf bar. Finish refers to how the product is coated and ultimately what color it is while the material refers to what the product is made of. There are a few basic materials and finishes of nerf bars: steel, stainless steel, chrome, black powder coated and polished stainless steel. Some manufactures gives an option for their customers to have it custom painted so that it would match the truck. An example of this is the Ionic stainless steel step bars.
The last and yet most important feature to consider is the type and length of the truck nerf bar. There are 3 different types and lengths of nerf bars: the sports bar, wheel to wheel and the bed access. Sports bars are nerf bars that cover the length of the truck cab. Wheel to Wheel nerf bars cover the full length of the pickup cab to the rear wheel. Bed Access are nerf bars that cover the full length of the truck cab to the rear wheel with support step room for bed access.
Selecting the right nerf bar is solely based upon a person’s particular preference. One must consider the functionality, presentation and price when making the decision. One can look at the aftermarket community as a reference to find the right truck nerf bar. You can even find discounts and deals for the best set on your pickup truck.
