The complications in patients receiving radiotherapy.

The complications in patients receiving radiotherapy in the head and neck can be minimized when taken preventive measures before the start of treatment. These measures are to maintain a balanced diet and good oral hygiene, in addition to the identification of oral problems as early as possible.
Wherever possible, before the start of radio or chemotherapy treatment, the patient should be examined by a dentist familiar with the complications of oral treatments. This review should be carried out at least 15 days prior to treatment to allow time for the healing of any oral wound that is needed. The oral health assessment prior to treatment allows the dentist to determine what steps need to take during treatment and after him, as well as the training of the patient with regard to the care of the mouth and teeth to keep them in good condition.
